Accommodation and Daily Allowance

Within a bilateral research project between the GUC and German partner institutions you can carry out research stays. Both short stays and research stays of up to two months can be funded. The stay should last at least 2-3 days plus arrival and departure (i.e. 4-5 days in total).

You can extend your stay at your own expense. In this case subsistence costs and per diems can only be claimed for the period of the research stay. Travel expenses will also be reimbursed for an earlier or later arrival or departure. In that case you will need to document the costs for a comparable flight within the funded travel period.

Also, if you share your accomodation with another person that is not related to the bilateral research, the single rate can be reimbursed up to the amount specified in the project budget.

Research Stay Rates

Please note that daily allowances can only be disembursed to German citizens as per Federal Travel Expenses Act (BRKG).

Research trips within the framework of bilateral research projects between GUC and German partner institutions will be based on daily rates for reimbursement:

  • for stays in Germany: 24 € for the first 14 days, thereafter 12 €
  • for stays in Egypt: 34 € for the first 14 days, thereafter 17 €

The following principles apply:

  • for the day of arrival and departure, only 50% of the valid rate is paid in each case
  • for meals provided, the daily rate is reduced (by 20% for breakfast, by 40% for lunch and by another 40% for dinner)

In the run-up to the research stay, a discount of up to 80 % of the expected daily rate may be granted upon request

Subsistence costs within the framework of bilateral research projects between the GUC and German partner institutions are reimbursed up to:

  • Germany:
    • Hotel costs per day: 95 € with breakfast
    • If private accommodation is used: accommodation allowance of €20 per day (lump sum)
    • Maximum accommodation costs per month: 700 €
  • Egypt:
    • Hotel costs per day: 125 € with breakfast
    • If private accommodation is used: accommodation allowance of €30 per day (lump sum)
    • Maximum accommodation costs per month: 700 €
